1000 kites took flight at once during a festival at Shymkent City Park in Shymkent on October 25 (informburo.kz). The Visit Shymkent tourist information centre organised the Republic Day celebration. The festival brought together families with children, local residents and visitors to the city.
What happened
The simultaneous launch was one of the festival’s most spectacular moments. Visitors could also enjoy kite-flying competitions and a display of giant flying creations. Children learned to fly kites. Workshops and interactive activities were also available for visitors.
Live music, dance performances and DJ sets rounded out the festive programme. Entertainers and a bubble show kept younger visitors amused. Designated relaxation areas in the park gave families a place to spend time outdoors.
What it means for the city
Visit Shymkent sees events like this as a way to develop family recreation and attract visitors from other regions. The centre’s director, Zamanbek Orynbekov, described the festival as an opportunity to showcase Shymkent as a destination for family holidays.
“We wanted to give Shymkent’s residents and visitors a memorable experience and a chance to spend Republic Day with their loved ones. Events like this create a special atmosphere, bring people together and help unlock the city’s tourism potential. It matters to us that Shymkent hosts more events that attract families and visitors from other regions,” Zamanbek Orynbekov stressed.
What visitors enjoyed
Shymkent resident Viktoria Drozhkina attended the festival with her family. She shared which activities the children particularly enjoyed and what stood out for the adults.
“We came here as a family and had a wonderful time. The children especially loved the kites and the bubble show, while we enjoyed the festive atmosphere itself. It’s lovely that the city organises events like this, where we can spend a day off together, relax outdoors and make lasting memories,” Viktoria Drozhkina said.
Many visitors came with their whole families to share the experience and take photos to remember the day. Children learned to fly kites, while adults joined in activities and watched the festive programme.
Who else joined the celebrations
The programme also included an event marking the end of the motorcycle season. Around 200 motorcyclists took part, joining the Republic Day celebrations.
