CAPITAL PLAST KZ’s waste paper recycling plant in Aktobe is scheduled to open in 2028. About 10.3 billion tenge from recycling fees has been allocated to the project. Once it reaches its design capacity, the plant will be able to process up to 150 tonnes of paper waste a day, Kapital.kz reports, citing the Aktobe regional press service (kapital.kz).
What happened
The plant is being built in Aktobe’s industrial zone. The project, run by CAPITAL PLAST KZ LLP, is supported by Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources and Zhasyl Damu JSC. Construction is financed through recycling fees.
Foundation work has been completed and a boiler house built at the site. Workers are now installing steel structures and building production facilities. The company’s chief engineer, Diyas Zhumagazyuly, announced plans to open the plant in 2028.
What this means
The future plant funded by recycling fees will process used paper and cardboard. Plans call for the waste paper to be turned into materials for the packaging industry. These are used to make corrugated packaging for storing and transporting goods.
At its design capacity, the plant will be able to produce 42 thousand tonnes of finished products a year. Up to 18 thousand tonnes will be corrugating medium. A further 24 thousand tonnes will be linerboard for the flat layers of corrugated board.
Production of these materials will give packaging manufacturers an additional source of raw materials. Recycling will allow paper waste to be reused in manufacturing and reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill.
Where the waste paper will come from
Plans call for waste paper to be collected and supplied from regions across western Kazakhstan. Raw materials from neighbouring regions are expected to provide the plant with the volumes of used paper and cardboard it needs.
The project is intended to expand paper recycling capacity within Aktobe itself. Its construction is linked to the development of waste recycling infrastructure and the Taza Qazaqstan environmental initiatives.
How many jobs will be created
More than 300 jobs are planned once the plant reaches full production capacity. Construction of production infrastructure is continuing at the site.
The project’s next announced milestone is commissioning the plant in 2028. That is the date given by CAPITAL PLAST KZ’s chief engineer.
