Kazakhstan and South Korea Launch SparkLabs Mirae Silkroad AI Venture Fund for Central Asia

Создание венчурного фонда SparkLabs Central Asia для инвестиций в AI-стартапы Казахстана

Qazaqstan Investment Corporation (QIC), South Korea’s Mirae Asset Venture Investment, and the global SparkLabs Group have finalized an agreement to launch a specialized international venture capital fund dedicated to scaling technology enterprises across Central Asia.

The institutional investment vehicle has been christened the SparkLabs Mirae Silkroad Fund I, L.P.

According to official statements from the Baiterek national management holding and QIC, the fund targets an authorized capital commitment of $65 million. Kazakhstan, acting through Qazaqstan Investment Corporation, is evaluating an anchor limited partner (LP) commitment of up to $10 million.

The investment thesis zeroes in on artificial intelligence, cloud enterprise infrastructure, Big Data analytics, and financial technology. Crucially, the fund is mandated to identify promising Kazakhstani and regional technology companies demonstrating the technological maturity to expand into the South Korean, East Asian, and North American markets.

Targeting Post-Seed and Series A Rounds

This mandate represents a decisive strategic differentiator. Central Asia currently features numerous pre-seed micro-funds and government grant programs (such as Astana Hub and regional accelerators), but suffers from an acute “Series A capital chasm” — where companies with verified product-market fit struggle to secure growth equity checks between $1 million and $5 million.

SparkLabs Mirae Silkroad Fund is structured precisely to lead or syndicate institutional Series A rounds, bridging mature regional scaleups to international venture ecosystems.

Regional Inclusion and the Silk Road Thesis

The fund’s geographic coverage spans Central Asian emerging hubs, with Uzbekistan and regional institutional investors also actively engaging as ecosystem partners. South Korean technology conglomerates view Central Asia as a rapidly digitizing corridor endowed with abundant mathematical talent, young demographics, and strong software engineering culture.

SparkLabs brings its global accelerator and mentor network spanning Silicon Valley, Seoul, Singapore, and Tokyo. Portfolio companies will receive direct business development access to Asian corporate giants and top-tier global venture firms.

Capital Mobilization Timetable

The headline $65 million figure represents the targeted fund cap upon final closing, rather than capital immediately drawn down. General Partners are currently conducting fundraising roadshows among international developmental finance institutions, regional sovereign wealth funds, and private family offices.

For Kazakhstani founders, the establishment of the fund provides a concrete institutional bridge to Asian capital markets. Startups building defensible proprietary AI and B2B SaaS technologies now have access to seasoned venture partners capable of orchestrating international exits and cross-border commercial partnerships.
