A new Airbus A321neo has arrived in Almaty, becoming the 64th aircraft in the Air Astana Group’s fleet. Delivered directly from the factory in Hamburg, it is scheduled to make its first commercial flight in early November 2026. It will serve the Almaty–Astana–Almaty route, one of Kazakhstan’s most popular domestic routes (inbusiness.kz).

What happened

The new aircraft carries the registration EI-KDL. The Civil Aviation Committee’s press office announced the delivery. The fleet addition is intended to expand the route network and increase passenger capacity—the number of passengers the group can carry.

“The aircraft is the 64th in the Air Astana Group’s fleet and will support the expansion of its route network and an increase in passenger capacity,” the Civil Aviation Committee’s press office said.

The figure of 64 therefore refers to the Air Astana Group’s entire fleet. The newly delivered aircraft belongs to Airbus’s new generation of planes. Its stated features include high fuel efficiency, lower noise and emissions, and greater passenger comfort.

What this means

The new aircraft will initially serve the domestic route between Almaty and Astana. This is one of the country’s busiest routes, carrying passengers between the capital and Kazakhstan’s largest city.

Introducing the aircraft on this route is expected to help ease pressure from passenger demand. For now, that remains an anticipated benefit: the first commercial flight has yet to take place. It is scheduled for early November, following the aircraft’s arrival from the factory.

The aims of the fleet expansion extend beyond EI-KDL’s first route. Alongside increasing passenger capacity, the Civil Aviation Committee cited the expansion of the group’s route network. For the new aircraft, however, Almaty–Astana–Almaty is the first route announced.

How fleet renewal affects access to air travel

Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Transport said it continually monitors the renewal and expansion of domestic airlines’ fleets. The ministry links the introduction of new aircraft to better transport access for people in Kazakhstan.

Other stated aims include increasing airlines’ passenger capacity and expanding the range of destinations they serve. The next announced step for the newly arrived Airbus is the start of commercial flights in November 2026.
