Daniyar Uspanov, co-founder and CEO of Tayyab

Daniyar Uspanov is the co-founder and CEO of Tayyab, a Kazakhstan-based fintech developing digital financial services for Muslim customers. He and Ivan Kamensky built a service that began with a mobile application and payment card. Tayyab’s website now also presents vehicle financing, refinancing and sukuk. (tayyab.kz)

Who Daniyar Uspanov is

Uspanov’s professional background is in financial services and Islamic financial products. Tayyab’s official website lists him as co-founder, CEO and a board member, with previous experience leading Al Saqr Finance. His business partner Ivan Kamensky is identified as co-founder, chief marketing officer and a board member. (tayyab.kz)

The two entrepreneurs met in 2003 while working at Bank CenterCredit. Their careers later took different directions: Kamensky moved into advertising technology, while Uspanov continued working with financial products. Their joint venture developed after Uspanov was invited to work on an Islamic payment-card pilot. (kz.kursiv.media)

How Daniyar Uspanov developed the idea

The initial brief concerned issuing a card. As the founders told Kursiv, Uspanov saw an opportunity to build a broader service around payments. The intended customer wanted familiar digital functions that also fitted the requirements of Islamic finance. (kz.kursiv.media)

In their Muslim.kz interview, the founders dated active development of the concept to 2019. They studied international offerings and considered which everyday needs an application could address. Their concept combined shopping payments, transfers and money management with features supporting religious practice. The company’s current website gives 2020 as Tayyab’s founding year. (muslim.kz, tayyab.kz)

The founders associated the name Tayyab with an Arabic word conveying cleanliness, goodness and usefulness. That idea informed the combination of financial functions and practical features such as prayer times, qibla direction and maps of relevant places. They described these features in an interview before the card launched. (muslim.kz)

Acceleration and the first partners

Uspanov learned about Startupbootcamp’s Dubai selection process through an Astana Hub mailing. The founders prepared their application and passed several selection stages. According to their account, Tayyab joined a group of ten projects selected from approximately five hundred international applicants. (kz.kursiv.media)

The programme helped the team develop contacts and sharpen its product focus. Reports from 2021 identified Dubai Fintech Ventures as an investor. Bank RBK became the financial partner in Kazakhstan, Prime Source supported software development, and the card used Visa infrastructure. (forbes.kz, muslim.kz)

This established the practical structure for launch. Tayyab’s team developed the application and customer-facing service, while the card relied on its partners’ banking and payment infrastructure. In the Forbes interview, the founders explained how that arrangement supported a retail product intended for everyday use. (forbes.kz)

Launching the card

Tayyab’s digital card launched on 20 July 2021, during the Eid al-Adha holiday. Customers could obtain it through the application, pay for purchases and transfer money. The founders also described support for contactless payments and an option to order a physical card. (muslim.kz)

The entrepreneurs explained their business model in terms of income from transactions and services. In their late-2021 interview, they discussed the commission component of card payments and plans to develop goods-based offerings. Those mechanisms shaped the ways the business intended to earn revenue within its chosen financial model. (kz.kursiv.media)

Before launch, Forbes reported on Shariyah Review Bureau’s review of the product. The founders also told Muslim.kz that it had received approval from Kazakhstan’s Spiritual Administration of Muslims. This work formed part of preparing a financial service for customers who wanted both digital convenience and compliance with religious requirements. (forbes.kz, muslim.kz)

The website states that Tayyab Finance Ltd received an AFSA licence to provide Islamic financing on 29 May 2024. It publishes that company’s details separately from information about the card product delivered with Bank RBK. (tayyab.kz)

At the end of 2021, the founders discussed plans for Turkey with Kursiv. They associated international development with partnerships and adapting the model to other markets.
