Kazakhstan’s GDP has grown by about 30% since 2019, Andrey Chebotaryov wrote on the FINANCE.kz Telegram channel. He commented on the country’s development figures following Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s speech at Akorda on October 23. The figures Chebotaryov cited included GDP per capita above $15 thousand and annual production of more than 150 thousand vehicles (kapital.kz).

What happened

Chebotaryov compiled figures covering the economy, construction, industry and social services. He put growth since 2019 at about 30%. GDP — gross domestic product — per capita exceeded $15 thousand, according to the data he cited.

The FINANCE.kz author also highlighted vehicle manufacturers. He said they produce more than 150 thousand vehicles a year. That figure includes passenger cars and trucks.

How much housing Kazakhstan built

More than 20 million square metres of housing were completed in Kazakhstan in a year. Chebotaryov described that as a record. He estimated that this amounted to roughly one square metre per person each year.

Other figures he cited included the opening of 1,483 kindergartens and 1,342 schools. Chebotaryov also mentioned more than 655 thousand grants worth 1.5 trillion tenge. He listed these figures alongside those for construction and industry.

What this means

Chebotaryov clarified that GDP per capita of more than $15 thousand is a nominal figure. To assess purchasing power, he suggested looking at how many goods and services that amount can buy. His commentary therefore distinguished between the nominal figure and purchasing power.

“Very respectable for a developing economy,” the FINANCE.kz author said of the growth. He stressed, however, that economic changes take time. In his view, even the discovery of a large gold deposit would not have an immediate effect.

What other figures Chebotaryov cited

Under the “National Fund for Children” programme, $2.5 billion was transferred to the accounts of 7 million children, according to the data he cited. Chebotaryov included this sum in his list alongside spending on grants and the number of schools opened.

The commentary followed Tokayev’s speech at Akorda on October 23. The president presented a series of figures on Kazakhstan’s development, which Chebotaryov then analysed on his channel.
