The Browser Company to Sunset Arc Browser on December 22: Data Can Be Exported in Advance

The Browser Company has officially announced that its desktop Arc browser for macOS and Windows will permanently sunset on December 22, 2026 (arc.net). Until that date, registered accounts remain fully functional, while the browser will receive basic updates.

Three Key Sunset Milestones

The discontinuation process spans three consecutive phases. On October 22, the company closed registration for new Arc accounts. The next milestone takes effect on November 23, when the Arc Search mobile app on iOS and Android will lose its artificial intelligence features, user logins, and tab synchronization. A lightweight web browser will persist on iOS, whereas the Android version will cease functioning entirely on December 22 and will be removed from Google Play.

What Will Happen to User Data

On the December 22 cutoff date, all Arc accounts will be deactivated, and associated personal information will be purged from company servers within 30 days. According to reporting by TechCrunch (techcrunch.com), active feature development on Arc stopped in 2025. Atlassian acquired The Browser Company for $610 million that year. Engineering and security personnel have since redirected focus to the Dia browser project.

What This Means for Readers

  • Before December 22, current Arc users can export their tabs as a list of links or import their Arc data into Dia. Existing Arc accounts become inaccessible on that date.
  • Mobile constraints take place sooner, as cloud sync and account logins on smartphones will turn off on November 23.

How to Export Tabs in Advance

The desktop browser provides built-in tools to export spaces and tabs. On macOS devices, users can navigate through Arc → Settings → Advanced → Export Data. On Windows machines, the export option is located under Settings → Advanced → Export Spaces and tabs → Export Data.
