X has begun moving users to a new version of its website in stages. The company says it is noticeably faster than the previous version (theverge.com). For users in Kazakhstan, the main change is how quickly pages load on a slow connection. However, access for logged-in users is being rolled out one country at a time.
What happened
X principal engineer Yağız Nizipli compared how quickly a profile loads over a slow connection. He said the first post previously took more than 22 seconds to appear. In the new version, it takes 2.7 seconds.
“In the old web app, you had to stare at the X logo for more than 22 seconds before the first post appeared,” Nizipli said. He explained that the new version also combines three servers into one: those serving users, search engine crawlers and link previews.
What this means for Kazakhstan
Readers in Kazakhstan who browse X without logging in can already use the update: that version of the website has moved to the new system. According to Nizipli, it also serves pages viewed by search engine crawlers.
For users who log in to their accounts, access depends on the country rollout order. The announcement alone does not confirm that all users in Kazakhstan have already received the new version.
The main practical change is the wait for the first post on a slow internet connection. That is the specific situation the X engineer described. His comparison concerns opening a profile: there is no basis for applying these figures to loading the feed, videos or any other page.
Security researcher Jane Manchun Wong said she had received access to the update. She found the website quick to load and responsive. This is an individual user’s feedback, while the timings in seconds come from X itself.
The next step is to move more logged-in users to the new version. For now, X continues to roll out access by country.
