Companies are buying AI assistants for their developers en masse, expecting teams to work several times faster. Almaty startup PanDev Metrics wants to test that assumption: its platform gathers data from Git, IDEs, Jira and AI tools to show what has actually changed in a team’s work. raem.kz spoke with PanDev co-founder and CEO Madiyar Bakbergenov about why claims of “several-fold gains in speed” mean little without context.
What is PanDev Metrics?
PanDev Metrics is an Engineering Intelligence platform for companies with their own development teams. It brings together data from Git, development environments (including JetBrains), Jira and AI tools. Managers can track development processes, DORA metrics, task and project costs, bottlenecks and how their teams use AI.
The platform runs on the customer’s own infrastructure. For banks and large companies, this is often a requirement: code and data about teams’ work never leave for an external cloud.
Why writing code faster does not necessarily mean shipping a feature faster
“Our approach is to assess AI by the results it delivers for the team and the business, rather than the amount of code it generates,” says Madiyar Bakbergenov.
AI does speed up coding, he says, but coding is only part of the job. Reviews, testing, fixes and approvals still have to follow. If an assistant writes code twice as fast but reviews and revisions take longer, the team as a whole may gain nothing.
That is why PanDev looks at the entire cycle:
- how long a task takes from start to finish;
- how quickly changes reach users;
- quality and the amount of rework;
- the total cost, including spending on the AI tools themselves.
“The share of AI-generated code shows that a tool is being used, but does not in itself prove a productivity gain,” Bakbergenov explains. The platform connects AI use with these measures.
Who is behind the company?
PanDev Metrics was founded in Almaty in 2024. Co-founder and CEO Madiyar Bakbergenov previously worked at CHOCO and co-founded Kwaaka. Founder and CTO Artur Pan is a former engineer at Kaspi Магазин and V.Life.
Clients and funding
PanDev has 20 clients; the company counts clients and pilot projects separately. Platform users include Halyk Bank, Prosper Pay, Biometric and Platonus.
The company is at the seed stage and recently closed a seed round. PanDev says it will name its investors later. The startup also participates in the NVIDIA Inception programme.
Where PanDev is headed
Following the round, the main priority is sales growth. The company is building its international sales and expanding its work with banks and corporate customers. Another focus is deeper analysis of how teams use AI and how much development costs. Its target markets are Central Asia, MENA, Turkey and Latin America.
PanDev is looking for corporate clients, as well as local distributors, integrators and partners who know their markets and can help with sales and implementation.
