Application intake has concluded. For candidates from Kazakhstan, the deadline expired on September 10, 2026 local time. This dossier is preserved for archival and institutional guidance. Updated September 18, 2026.
The prestigious Schwarzman Scholars program invited applications for its fully funded one-year Master’s degree in Global Affairs at Tsinghua University in Beijing. Citizens of Kazakhstan compete within the international Global/US applicant pool. The official submission cutoff was September 9, 2026 at 15:00 EDT (midnight September 10, Kazakhstan time UTC+5).
The academic cohort matriculates in August 2027. The fellowship is designed for emerging leaders demonstrating exceptional academic accomplishment, integrity, and verified leadership impact. No specific undergraduate major is favored: the selection committee welcomes candidates from STEM, business, humanities, public policy, and the arts.
Candidate Eligibility and Academic Criteria
Applicants submitting via the Global portal must hold citizenship of a sovereign nation outside mainland China. Kazakhstani passport holders meet this criterion and register through the U.S./Global Applicants channel.
By August 1, 2027, candidates must have successfully completed all degree requirements for an accredited undergraduate bachelor’s degree. Students in their final academic year are fully eligible to apply provided their graduation is formalized prior to the matriculation date.
Candidates must be between 18 and 28 years of age inclusive as of August 1, 2027. Under official statutory guidelines, an applicant must have attained their 18th birthday but must not yet have reached their 29th birthday by the reference date.
All academic instruction is delivered in English. Mandatory English testing requirements are waived only for candidates who completed at least two academic years of undergraduate or postgraduate coursework at an institution where English is the primary language of instruction. For all other applicants, verified minimum scores are required:
- TOEFL iBT — minimum score of 100 on the 120-point scale;
- IELTS Academic — minimum composite band score of 7.0;
- Duolingo English Test — minimum overall score of 130;
- Cambridge C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency — minimum score of 185.
The program does not enforce a rigid minimum GPA cutoff. Academic records are evaluated holistically alongside verified leadership achievements, intellectual vitality, character, and cross-cultural adaptability.

Complete Financial Coverage and Fellowship Entitlements
Schwarzman Scholars is one of the world’s most comprehensively funded academic fellowships. Selected scholars receive full financial support, covering:
- 100% of academic tuition and institutional mandatory fees;
- Single-room on-campus residential housing at Schwarzman College;
- Comprehensive full-board meal plan and living allowance stipend;
- Round-trip economy international airfare to and from Beijing at academic term boundaries;
- Curricular study tours and immersive field seminars across China;
- Required course textbooks, research software, and Lenovo laptop hardware allowance;
- Comprehensive medical and accident insurance coverage throughout residency.

All direct expenses associated with attending in-person finalist interviews are covered by the foundation, including round-trip transit, accommodation, and group dining. The fellowship does not provide supplementary stipends for spouses or dependents.
The academic tenure spans exactly one academic year: mandatory orientation begins in late August, culminating in official commencement in early July.
The Selection Pipeline and Multi-Stakeholder Interviews
Following comprehensive portfolio evaluations, a select cohort of global finalists is invited to formal interview panels held between October and November 2026.
The in-person interview lasts approximately 25 minutes. Interview boards comprise five to six distinguished leaders representing multinational corporations, government ministries, academic faculties, and international non-profits. The panel evaluates the candidate’s leadership philosophy, past accomplishments, and capacity to articulate perspectives on pressing international geopolitical and economic affairs beyond their primary academic focus.

Conceptual editorial representation of an interview session, not a photographic depiction of an active committee panel.
Attendance at the designated interview center is mandatory. Remote virtual interviews are granted only under extraordinary circumstances, such as certified medical emergencies or demonstrable visa issuance barriers.
Final Submission Verification Protocols
Once submitted, an application cannot be reopened or edited. Before pressing submit, candidates must generate the application proof to inspect academic transcripts, certified English translations, uploaded video introductions, and the status of all three required confidential letters of recommendation.
All institutional records issued in languages other than English must be accompanied by certified, unpassworded English translations completed by the issuing university or a licensed translation professional.
