A 33.9% rise in the index does not mean vehicle inspections have become a third more expensive for every driver in Kazakhstan. The figure reflects changes in service providers’ prices, rather than the average cost of an inspection for car owners. According to the Bureau of National Statistics, the increase was recorded in the third quarter of 2026 compared with the same period in 2025 (kursiv.media).
How much the vehicle inspection price index rose
The producer price index for technical vehicle checks rose by 33.9% year on year. Technical vehicle checks are vehicle inspections. The comparison covers the third quarter of 2026 and the third quarter of 2025.
The index rose by 14.8% compared with the previous quarter. This comparison covers two consecutive periods: the second and third quarters of 2026. The two percentages therefore have different starting points, even though both refer to the same type of service.

What the producer price index shows
The index tracks how service providers’ prices change over time. In this case, the statistics cover technical vehicle checks. This shows the direction of price changes: the index rose over both periods cited.
The average cost of an inspection for drivers is a different measure. A 33.9% rise in the index does not tell you how much a single vehicle inspection now costs in tenge. The percentage describes a change in prices, rather than an amount to pay.
Does this mean every driver will pay a third more?
No, the figures do not support that conclusion. The phrase “the index rose by a third” refers to the producer price index. It does not mean every car owner’s costs have increased by the same amount.
For your own budget, what matters is the cost of the specific inspection. Before taking your car in, check the price with the service provider. That is the amount you can budget for your car expenses.
Still, the statistical increase should not be ignored: it shows that vehicle inspection prices rose over the periods in question. But you should not automatically apply the overall percentage to your own bill.
How to interpret annual and quarterly growth
The two figures answer different questions. The annual figure shows the change compared with the same period a year earlier. The quarterly figure shows the change compared with the immediately preceding quarter.
| What the third quarter of 2026 is compared with | Index increase |
|---|---|
| The third quarter of 2025 | 33.9% |
| The second quarter of 2026 | 14.8% |
These percentages should not be added together to estimate the price increase: they use different comparison periods. Nor should the 14.8% be treated as an additional increase on top of the annual 33.9%. Both figures describe changes in the same index, but from different points in time.
In plain terms
Vehicle inspection providers’ prices have risen, as recorded by the Bureau of National Statistics index for the third quarter of 2026. For drivers, the next step is practical: check the cost before taking your car for an inspection. If you are planning your expenses, use the quoted price of the service: a statistical percentage cannot replace the amount you will have to pay.
