Kazakhstani high-tech fitness startup Hero’s Journey, created by the founder of the popular Invictus fitness chain Iliyas Issatayev, has raised $6 million in funding to drive an ambitious international rollout across the United States. As of early 2026, the company’s valuation reached $40 million. The investment round was backed by EA Group’s venture division (EA Ventures) alongside a syndicate of private strategic investors.
Gamification and Live RPG Mechanics Replacing Workout Monotony
The defining bottleneck across the modern fitness industry is catastrophic member churn: over 70% of beginners abandon gym memberships within their first three months due to lack of motivation, isolation, and repetitive routine. Hero’s Journey re-architected physical training into an immersive real-life role-playing game (RPG):
- Real-Time Biometric Tracking: Every participant wears a medical-grade chest heart-rate monitor, with telemetry live-streamed directly to expansive multimedia screens throughout the training studio;
- Character Classes and Squad Raids: Athletes group into tactical squads, conquer cooperative fitness “raids”, earn experience points (XP), unlock character ranks, and level up their digital avatars inside the companion mobile app;
- AI Coach and Injury Prevention: Intelligent algorithms analyze heart-rate recovery curves and training history to dynamically recommend individualized working weights, preventing overtraining and burnout.
Scaling into the United States Market
After stress-testing and refining its hybrid business model (proprietary boutique studios coupled with recurring SaaS software subscriptions) in Almaty, the startup initiated its US market expansion—the world’s most lucrative fitness market. According to founder Iliyas Issatayev, the $6 million capital injection is deployed toward launching flagship tech studios in California and scaling an international franchise network.
