The Asian Development Bank (ADB), funded by the Government of Japan, finances full master’s degree scholarships at partner universities across the Asia-Pacific region under the ADB-Japan Scholarship Program (ADB-JSP). The scholarship covers full tuition, accommodation, health insurance, and round-trip economy airfare. Citizens of Kazakhstan are officially eligible.
The program does not operate under a single universal deadline. Applications are processed directly by designated partner academic institutions according to their independent admissions calendars. Applicants must select an eligible university first to review institutional submission deadlines.
Scholarship Benefits
- Full tuition fee waiver;
- Monthly living and subsistence stipend, including housing allowances;
- Textbook, learning materials, and research allowances;
- Comprehensive medical and health insurance;
- Round-trip economy international airfare;
- Thesis preparation grant for research master’s candidates.
Stipend levels are established according to living costs in the host nation. The scholarship applies exclusively to designated master’s programs at official partner universities and cannot be transferred to non-partner institutions.
The initiative targets mid-career professionals committed to contributing to their home nations’ socioeconomic development in fields vital to ADB, such as infrastructure, economics, and environmental management. A coherent alignment between graduate research and domestic development priorities in Kazakhstan strengthens application competitiveness.
Eligibility Criteria
- Citizenship of an ADB developing member country, including Kazakhstan;
- Not exceeding 35 years of age at the time of application (discretionary exceptions require Japanese government approval);
- A bachelor’s degree or equivalent with superior academic achievement;
- At least two years of full-time professional post-graduation work experience.
Application Procedure
- Select an eligible partner university from the official ADB roster;
- Request institutional admissions application packages directly from the university;
- Submit required application materials and the official ADB-JSP information sheet to the institution.
The university screens candidates and forwards finalists to the Asian Development Bank for final selection endorsement.
Key Constraints
- Two-year post-degree work experience is mandatory—recent graduates lacking full-time experience are ineligible.
- Studies require full-time on-campus residency abroad under student visa compliance.
- Language proficiency thresholds (TOEFL/IELTS) and GRE requirements are established by individual universities.
Timelines
The program operates annually on a continuous basis. Partner universities typically open admission intakes during autumn and winter for the forthcoming academic year, necessitating advance institutional outreach.
