Askhat Aimagambetov said digitalization has become a new cause of overload for Kazakhstan’s teachers. According to the lawmaker, new information systems have given educators more data collection and reporting to do. He announced amendments that would limit extra assignments for teachers in their personal time, Kursiv reported.

What happened
Aimagambetov spoke about teachers’ workload in the corridors of parliament. In his assessment, teachers still carry out many tasks outside their professional duties, and the problem has worsened in recent years.
He linked part of the workload to the introduction of information systems in schools. According to him, school principals have increasingly assigned teachers to collect information and fill out reports.
Kapital.kz, reporting through its own correspondent, independently covered his remarks about digitalization adding reporting duties and requiring teachers to request information from parents, including personal data. Aimagambetov criticized this practice.
How existing protections are enforced
Aimagambetov said the law on the status of teachers provided legal guarantees against being assigned work outside their role. However, he argued that putting these protections into practice requires continuing support from ministries and other government bodies.
The lawmaker also urged people not to blame the Ministry of Education for teacher overload. In his account, the main powers lie with local executive authorities, while the ministry sets the rules.
Which duties Aimagambetov proposes to limit
The announced amendments concern demands placed on teachers outside working hours. Aimagambetov cited managing parent chats, filming videos and other tasks outside teachers’ professional duties as examples of assignments he wants to limit through legislation.
Earlier, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev drew attention to rudeness and violence against teachers by students. He called for protecting educators and examining every conflict from all sides.
