Kazakhstani industrial conglomerate Nero Group and Chinese robotics leader UBTech Robotics are advancing a strategic initiative to localize robotics manufacturing in Kazakhstan. Initial capital investments for the multi-stage endeavor are estimated at approximately $440 million.
The strategic roadmap encompasses not merely kit assembly, but establishing advanced physical manufacturing facilities, a specialized R&D engineering center, embedded software programming, and joint academic research.

Targeted Robotics Lines: Humanoid, Educational, and Industrial
Headquartered in Shenzhen and founded in 2012, UBTech Robotics is a globally recognized pioneer in bipedal humanoid robots, educational STEM robotics kits, and autonomous commercial logistics platforms.
The localized production facility in Kazakhstan plans to manufacture three distinct robotics categories:
- Educational Robotics: Programmable modular robots engineered for schools, universities, and STEM laboratories to train young students in robotics engineering and Python programming.
- Commercial Service & Security Robots: Autonomous indoor patrolling, delivery, and concierge platforms for airports, financial institutions, and exhibition centers.
- Industrial Humanoid Robots: Advanced bipedal robotics systems capable of navigating factory floors, manipulating assembly components, and assisting human personnel in hazardous environments.
Initial Deployments Targeted for Secondary Education
According to project leadership, early batches of localized educational robotics will be integrated into secondary schools across Kazakhstan. Supplying domestic schools with standardized robotics kits establishes a nationwide talent pipeline, preparing young Kazakhstani students for careers in automation and AI.
Nabiyev emphasized that robotics deployment aims to empower and augment human workers rather than cause workforce displacement. In manufacturing and public services, autonomous robots absorb repetitive, ergonomically hazardous tasks, freeing human professionals for higher-value analytical and supervisory roles.
Next Milestones and Implementation Steps
Substantial technical groundwork remains before full factory commissioning: determining final special economic zone (SEZ) site selection, establishing component supply chains, and training domestic firmware engineers. Establishing a dedicated R&D center ensures domestic engineers participate directly in algorithm optimization and localized software development.
The $440 million partnership marks a landmark leap for Kazakhstan’s technological manufacturing, transitioning the country from a consumer of imported robotics into an active regional engineering and assembly hub for advanced automation systems.
