Alatau Zharyq Company has increased the number of action cameras used for work on its power networks to 268. All emergency response crews in the power network districts of Almaty and Almaty Region now have camera-equipped helmets. The Energy Ministry says the devices help monitor workers’ safety on the job (gov.kz).
What happened
The company first introduced action cameras in 2024 as a pilot project. All emergency response crews now have them, and crews led by foremen are still being equipped.
The cameras stream live video. District power network managers, dispatchers and occupational safety specialists can monitor compliance with safety requirements.
What this means
If specialists spot a dangerous situation, they can call for work to be suspended. Monitoring through the cameras allows them to intervene while workers are still on site and take steps to prevent an accident.
Video recordings are also regularly reviewed after work is completed. If violations are found during a review, workers receive explanations and additional safety briefings.
The cameras are thus used at two stages: to monitor work as it happens and to review violations afterwards. The Energy Ministry links the introduction of the devices to efforts to prevent workplace injuries.
The next step is to continue equipping crews led by foremen with camera-equipped helmets.
