Freedom Holding has opened Freedom Lab in Kazakhstan to develop and deploy digital solutions. Its first major project is ISKAD, an intelligent road monitoring system backed by 112.9 billion tenge in investment from Freedom. It will monitor trucks’ compliance with weight limits and help protect roads from premature wear (the-tech.kz).
What happened
Freedom Lab signed an agreement with Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Transport at a forum in Shymkent to implement ISKAD. The announced investment is for the road monitoring system.
The project focuses on monitoring freight vehicles. The system will check compliance with weight limits: overloaded vehicles cause premature road wear, which ISKAD is designed to help prevent.
What this means
Freedom estimates that introducing ISKAD will save the government around 1 trillion tenge. This is the system’s expected impact.
Road accidents are also expected to fall by around 1%. Both figures describe the projected results of introducing ISKAD.
What Freedom Lab will do
The lab is led by Chingiz Kulakhmetov. Alongside transport and logistics, its areas of work include industry, healthcare and the social sector.
Freedom Lab will develop and deploy digital solutions for these sectors. The team plans to launch further technology projects to address challenges across different sectors in Kazakhstan.
