Kazakhstan and Israel signed a convention on the avoidance of double taxation at the 10th meeting of their intergovernmental commission in Jerusalem. Kazakhstan’s delegation was led by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development Zhaslan Madiyev. The talks also covered investment and joint technology products (profit.kz).
What happened
The convention was the main outcome of the meeting of the Kazakhstan-Israel Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation. The two sides also signed seven commercial documents at a business forum.
During his working visit, Madiyev met with Israeli President Isaac Herzog. They discussed progress on earlier agreements and further cooperation.
What this means for technology cooperation
The digital economy was a major part of the talks. The two sides discussed joint research, the development of technology products and the exchange of cybersecurity expertise — protecting digital systems and data. The protection of critical information infrastructure was discussed separately.
For Kazakhstan, these areas are linked to developing its own computing infrastructure and introducing artificial intelligence into government and sectors of the economy. The country is also developing technology companies and training programmes for specialists.
Madiyev outlined the results Kazakhstan expects from the cooperation:
“It should deliver concrete projects, new expertise, investment and technologies that work in Kazakhstan.”
The next step will be to formalise cooperation on artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and investment protection. These areas are part of the two countries’ plans for further cooperation.
