OpenAI has announced its acquisition of Pierre Computer Company to expand Codex’s tools for teams working with AI agents (the-tech.kz). For developers in Kazakhstan who use Codex, the deal involves working with files, reviewing changes and storing code history.
What happened
Pierre created Trees and Diffs, open-source libraries already used in Codex. Trees helps users navigate project files. Diffs lets them review code changes.
Pierre’s other products include Highlights for syntax highlighting and Code Storage for storing code. The latter tracks changes using Git, a version control system.
What this means for Kazakhstan
Teams in Kazakhstan using Codex are already familiar with some of Pierre’s technology through working with files and changes. The acquisition will therefore build on tools already integrated into the product.
The next stage will involve version control. Once the deal closes, OpenAI plans to integrate Pierre’s capabilities into Codex. The company wants to adapt familiar Git-based workflows for developers and AI agents working together.
For Code Storage users, the order of the transition matters. The service will keep running while its features are moved into Codex. Pierre’s open-source projects will remain open source.
These plans concern how work with Codex is organised: finding files, reviewing changes and preserving project history.
What to expect next
The deal has yet to close. It must meet standard conditions, including regulatory approvals. Until it closes, OpenAI and Pierre will continue to operate as independent companies.
